Mikel Obi is about to get his British passport in October, and he’s turning all offers down for now to at least stay in Chelsea for him to obtain his passport first, which he is due to get in October. “Mikel will be a British citizen by October and that was one of the main considerations why he has opted to stay put at Chelsea at least for the time being. There are offers from clubs like Juventus, Galatasaray and Monaco, but he would rather get his passport before he considers any of them,” a close associate told africanFootball.com

Since the death of Mr Patrick Sawyer, the Liberian who died in Lagos from the Ebola Virus,the Lagos State Government said it had identified no fewer than 59 people who had contacts with him. Dr Jide Idris, the Commissioner for Health said 20 of the contacts had been screened and that none of them had so far been found to be infected with the virus. According to Vanguard,he said the contacts did not include those he might have been with on his flight to Nigeria on July 20, as the airline had yet to release the passenger manifest for investigation. “The airline manifest has not been provided by the airline as at the time of this report and therefore, the precise number of passenger contacts is yet to be ascertained, especially as two flights were involved (Monrovia- Lome and Lome-Lagos).” The commissioner urged Nigerians not to entertain fears about Sawyer`s case as the state and Federal Governments were doing everything possible to prevent any risk to ...

Arik Air has said it has suspended flight operations to Liberia and Sierra-Leone following the outbreak of Ebola virus in the countries. The airline’s Head of Corporate Communications, Ola Adebanji, disclosed this in a statement issued yesterday in Lagos. According to the statement, the suspension would be in force until further notice. Over 670 people have been killed by the virus in West African countries.

The wife of Cameroon's vice prime minister was kidnapped and at least three people killed in an attack by Boko Haram militants in the northern town of Kolofata on Sunday, Cameroon officials said. A local religious leader, or lamido, named Seini Boukar Lamine, who is also the town's mayor, was kidnapped as well, in a separate attack on his home. Boko Haram stepped up cross-border attacks into Cameroon in recent weeks as Cameroon deployed troops to the region, joining international efforts to combat the militants. Issa Tchiroma told Reuters by telephone: "I can confirm that the home of Vice Prime Minister Amadou Ali in Kolofata came under a savage attack from Boko Haram militants. Police said a lone female suicide bomber died in an attempt to bomb, Northwest University in Kano around 1PM today. The female estimated to be 16 years of age, was walking suspiciously towards the gate of the university when police guarding the area spotted her, isolated her and called for reinforcement from female police officers adept at handling Muslim females. A US doctor who has been in Liberia and battling the Ebola epidemic has himself fallen sick with the disease in Liberia, his aid agency said. Dr Brantly who is married with two children, has been isolated at the group’s Ebola treatment center at the ELWA hospital in Liberia after he contacted the virus. Samaritan’s Purse, a Christian charity, says the group is committed to doing everything possible to help Dr Brantly during this time of crisis. “We ask everyone to please pray for him and his family, a statement on their website reads”. The Ebola virus causes severe fever, muscle pains, vomiting, diarrhoea and, in some cases, organ failure and unstoppable bleeding which kills within days. The Appeal Court sitting in Enugu on Saturday 26th July, struck out four suits filed against the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) challenging the candidature of Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra at the November 2013 gubernatorial election. The suits were filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The petitioners are Tony Nwonye, an aspirant of the PDP at the election and an APGA governorship aspirant, Chike Obidigbo. Delivering the four separate judgments on the appeals, the five-man panel led by Justice Mohammed Garba, said the appeal was struck out for incompetence and lack of merit.
